COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A tragic situation unfolding on Victoria Drive in Columbus. Police say three elderly people were stabbed - one of them dead.
Police say just before 11 a.m. they got a call about a naked man seen on the streets off Steam Mill Road. They later found out that the man is the main suspect in a homicide investigation.
“I think it’s a shame that a naked man could be running around the neighborhood like that and he ran in and killed some people," said one startled neighbor.
Major JD Hawk says police responded to a call about somebody running around naked. Shortly after, discovering the suspect, who is also the “naked man,” went inside one of the homes and stabbed three elderly people. Killing one of them , the other two were taken for treatment at a local hospital.
The suspect was also taken to the hospital and police say he will be taken into custody once released.
No names of victims are being released, but investigators on scene confirmed at least one of them are in their 90′s.
“I’m just scared myself. I’m fixing to go home and lock my door," said one neighbor.
Police say the suspect lives in the area. They could not say whether the suspect and the victims in this case had any prior conflicts.
Meanwhile, police are gathering evidence for hours trying to pin point what exactly happened. Neighbors say they are in fear and did not expect something like this to happen.
