Relatives describe Victoria Dr. stabbing suspect as ‘unstable’

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The suspect has been identified in a fatal stabbing that left one person dead in Columbus on Monday.

Darius Travick, 27, is charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault. 92-year-old John Dawson was found dead in his home on Victoria Drive and his 89-year-old wife, Evelyn Dawson, was found beaten and stabbed.

Police were dispatched to Dawson’s home at approximately 10:40 a.m. in reference to people fighting with a nude man. Upon arrival, officers were informed that Travick was seen exiting the home and attempting to enter Dawson’s vehicle.

Neighbors confronted Travick and a fight with the neighbors began.

Police say that Travick did not know any of the stabbing victims. They also do not think there will be a motive in the case since Travick’s relatives described him as an ‘unstable person.’

Travick was booked into the Muscogee County Jail. His Recorder’s Court hearing is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 28 at 9 a.m.
