Impact of Hurricane Michael causes damage and power outages in the Chattahoochee Valley

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Hurricane Michael made landfall Wednesday afternoon and is impacting parts of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama causing power outages and damage.

According to Alabama Power 45,000 are without power as of 5 p.m. Georgia Power is reporting 1,402 active outages as of 1:02 a.m.

  • Columbus residents reported a tree down in the 2300 block of Avalon Road and traffic lights are out on 9th Street near 2nd Avenue. There are outages and damage throughout the city.
  • In Cuthbert, Georgia, several trees are blocking roads and Jeff’s Furniture and Appliances has sustained damage.
  • All 911 lines are down in Sumter County and there are multiple outages as well.
  • Trees are down in Eufaula and are also without power.
