Suspect, victim identified in fatal shooting near Fort Rucker

DALE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - The suspect and victim in a fatal shooting near Fort Rucker have been identified.

According to the Dale County Sheriff’s Office, one person is dead and a suspect has been captured after a shooting near Fort Rucker. Daleville Police Chief, William Powell, confirmed the two were brothers, and 58-year-old Thomas Michael Goulart allegedly shot and killed his brother, 52-year-old Chris Goulart. It was Chris Goulart’s wife who initially called police. The brothers lived next door to each other.

Dale County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Mason Bynum confirmed the suspect was taken into custody in the area near the shooting, which was on Richardson Drive. According to Bynum, the suspect and victim were at a residence when an altercation between the two led to the shooting. At this time it is unclear what the altercation was about.

Thomas Goulart is charged with one count of burglary in the first degree and one count of murder in the first degree.
