Ellerslie Volunteer Fire Dept. recognized for relief efforts after storm damage

ELLERSLIE, GA (WTVM) - The Ellerslie Volunteer Fire Department was recognized this week for its work after storms passed through the area in March.

Kim Phillips Country Financial treated the fire crew to barbecue from Mike and Ed’s and gave them a check for $1,500. Chief Skip Wyatt said some of the money will go toward the station’s power bill and water bill. He said they are also going to try to use some of the money for something special.

"Once a year we try to take the firemen and their families up to Helen, Georgia for the weekend,” said Wyatt. “We're probably going to try to use that money to go up there this year, just to let them get away, do a little bonding, and talking because we're just a big family anyways."

Wyatt said Phillips likes to help out when possible and they are thankful for the gift. He said the crew worked hard and he ‘s glad they’re going to be able to take some time to spend with family.
