ATLANTA (AP) - Two Georgia chiropractors are facing felony charges of fraudulently submitting more than $11 million in insurance claims for services that were not provided.
Acting United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates announced the indictments of 41-year-old Andrew Sokol and 35-year-old Julie Weisberg on Friday. The couple are married and live in Marietta.
Yates said the two allegedly billed Blue Cross Blue Shield and other private insurers for physical therapy services when they were instead providing massages, personal training, and chiropractic adjustments.
Prosecutors say Sokol owned and operated "WellnessOne" chiropractic clinics in Marietta, Buckhead, Duluth, Vinings, and other locations in metro Atlanta. Weisberg was a partner in WellnessOne of Marietta.
The couple allegedly targeted certain employees because their Blue Cross Blue Shield policies provided generous chiropractic and physical therapy benefits.
