COLUMBUS, GA - The Junior League of Columbus, Georgia, in partnership with eleven other Junior League chapters across Georgia and Bright from the Start, is promoting literacy in Georgia through the Million Minute Read.
The week of Feb 22- 25 is the official Million Minute Read Week. Events will begin Monday with Lt. Governor, Casey Cagle reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar on the front steps of the state capital building.
Local events this week will include Junior League of Columbus members reading to children at The Columbus Public Library and Books- A -Million.
The Million Minute Read's purpose is to celebrate the millionth child enrolling in Georgia Pre-K by logging a million minutes of reading to children in an effort to promote literacy.
So far, the Junior Leagues of Georgia have logged 937,000 minutes!
Junior League volunteers will be reading at The Columbus Public Library in the Childrens Reading Room on:
Tuesday, February 23rd at 3:30 pm Wednesday, February 24th at 3:30 pm Thursday, February 25th at 3:30 pmThrough a strong tradition of volunteerism, the Junior League of Columbus is a diverse and dedicated organization of women using their talents to achieve individual fulfillment while focusing the energies of the membership on today's critical social issues to improve the quality of life in our community.
