CLAYTON, Ala. (AP) - Officials say a 40-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly led deputies on a chase reaching 120 miles per hour while throwing crack cocaine from the car.
Barbour County Sheriff LeRoy Upshaw tells WTVM-TV in Columbus, Ga. that Arthur Baxter left a license checkpoint in Clayton this weekend and the pursuit took place over about thirty miles of county roads.
The sheriff said Baxter was multitasking during the chase, negotiating sharp turns, dodging sheriff's cruisers and throwing out what appears to be crack several times.
Upshaw said the suspect told police he ran because he didn't want another DUI or any more tickets.
Deputies and state troopers issued more than 50 citations after Baxter crashed in a field. He kept going on foot but tracking dogs found him hiding in mud about a half mile away.
