COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - New details are emerging in an unusual hit and run case in Columbus. This, as the victim's family says he is undergoing reconstructive surgeries for his injuries.

Columbus investigators tell WTVM Alphonso Carter, the victim in this case, has severe facial injuries after he was intentionally hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

Detectives say the injuries to the 28-year-old's face are so bad, he has not been able to speak with them about the incident that happened early Thursday morning on Andrews Road in South Columbus.

In the meantime, investigators are working to track down the driver of the car.

They say this is not a traffic accident but an aggravated assault case since it was clearly done on purpose.

Columbus Police released a description of the suspect's car Friday:a dark colored 1988 Cadillac Brougham with Georgia tag BLU2427.

They say it has damage to the front and to the headlight and possibly a cracked windshield.

Anyone with information is asked to call Columbus Investigators at 706-653-3400.
