Curtis McCloud joined News Leader 9 in May of 2010. He is excited to be covering news in his hometown of Columbus. Curtis was first introduced to television news in the third grade as a member of WHKL, The Hannan Hawk News team at Hannan Elementary.
Curtis graduated from Howard University where he majored in Broadcast Journalism. While at Howard, he served as senior producer of the Student Training Department at WHUT-TV 32, a PBS affiliate in Washington D.C.
In addition to WHUT, he has completed internships at Cox Broadcasting's Washington, D.C. Bureau, WRC-TV NBC 4 also in Washington, and WHAG NBC 25 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
During the summer of 2009, Curtis had the opportunity to experience the technical side of the television business by participating in the CNN student trainee program at the Washington, D.C. Bureau.
During his senior year at Howard, Curtis was chosen as a 2010 Meredith-Cronkite fellow, where he joined other dedicated journalism students for an intense week of reporter training at KPHO CBS 5 in Phoenix, Arizona.
In the spring of 2009, he was presented a journalism scholarship by President and Mrs. Obama at the annual White House correspondent's dinner in Washington, D.C.
When he's not on the job Curtis likes to explore his passion for theatre arts. In 2007 he produced a full-length musical called ReJalene, which debuted at the historic Liberty Theatre Culture Center in Columbus.
He's excited to be back home and is eager to give back to a community that has done so much for him.
