COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Police Department confirms a man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Columbus teen.
Authorities arrested 21-year-old Marquise Roberts in connection with the murder of 18-year-old Gerald Hatchett. The teen was fatally shot just blocks away from Lakebottom Park.
According to the coroner, Hatchett was pronounced dead around 11:20 p.m. on Labor Day near 25th Street.
According to police, Roberts drove the shooter to the scene of the crime in a car. Roberts was arrested at his Columbus home without incident and was booked in the Muscogee County Jail Wednesday morning.
He is expected to appear in Recorder's Court Friday at 9:00 a.m.
We are told autopsy results are pending, however, it appears to be a single gunshot wound. Investigators believe this shooting was drug-related.
Police chief Ricky Boren told media in a press conference: "Roberts brought the shooter to the area, we have identified the shooter and we are in the process of finding him."
It is the third shooting in the East Highlands neighborhood within the last month and the third murder over the Labor Day weekend.
