TALBOT COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -  Talbot County officials say a woman was burned beyond recognition when her car hit a tree and burst into flames this past weekend.

It happened just after midnight Sunday morning on Rising Sun Road in Talbotton near the entrance to the Big Lazer Hunting Preserve.

Clinton Cosby, the Talbot County Coroner, says 30-year-old Chirmain Johnson from Woodbury, GA and a friend were riding in Johnson's Cadillac and going around a curve when the car left the road, hit a tree and caught fire, burning Johnson to death.

The male passenger was transported to the Medical Center with several burns.

Cosby says speed played a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
