AMERICUS, GA (WTVM) -  It's clear by the black ribbon and flowers on the front door that the Harvey household in Americus is in mourning.

Over the weekend, Americus Police say they found 19-year-old Damian Harvey dead inside an apartment at a complex next to Georgia Southwestern State University.

His mother, Stephanie Harvey, didn't want to be on camera but says those who loved the teen can't help but think of the future he won't get to have.

"We were expecting for him to maybe go into the service or he was thinking about going to school and he just missed having that chance," she said.

Neither the police, the District Attorney's Office or even Harvey's family is talking about what happened the night he was killed. Greg Hancock, the Sumter County Coroner, says Harvey was shot once in the head.

But it doesn't appear to be a random killing. Police are now charging 19-year-old Zephaniah Grimes with Harvey's murder. They say the teens were friends and were living together.

"Our investigation shows that they graduated together from Americus-Sumter Co High School in 2010," said Assistant Chief Nelson Brown of the Americus Police Department.

The circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting might be unclear but one thing is obvious for the victim's family- Damian Harvey is gone to soon.

"He had a lot of potential to succeed in life. I just hope that this doesn't happen to any other young person. He will be loved and missed very much," his mother added.

Damian Harvey's family is in the process of making funeral arrangements.

Zephaniah Grimes is being held in the Sumter County Jail on his murder charge.

Police say more charges are pending against him.
