PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -  A Phenix City woman is in jail tonight after stabbing her boyfriend to death over the weekend. It all took place in the home they were sharing at Cloverleaf Apartments.

Early Sunday morning Phenix City Police found 23-year-old Dwantai Cordary Jones -- or C. Jones as his friends and family called him -- stabbed to death in his Clover Leaf apartment.

Minutes later, his mother was notified. Estella Moore said, "He said, she stabbed him to death last night and that was something I couldn't accept right then."

Police say the woman who took his life was his live-in girlfriend, Tanisha Sharpe.

"She seemed nice, I never thought he would die at her hand because she didn't appear to be that type of person," Jones's aunt, Diane Coleman told News Leader Nine.

Moore added, "He was never a violent person and my question is… I can't understand why she did it to him."

Family members say the couple lived together for four months and Moore said, "The relationship with them, as far as I know, I don't think it went well because he jumped in to it too quick."

And despite how the couple lived, Moore said it was ultimately C. Jones's death that tore them apart, "He always told me how she used to nag him all the time but with him being a young man, I always told him to walk away. He was a very nice young man and I'm speaking out now, I'm asking her why she did she have to kill my son? If it got so bad, why couldn't she have walked away or tell him to leave that night? I just don't understand why she had to do it to him."

Now Tanisha Sharpe is sitting in jail, charged with killing the man she loved, while his family is planning a funeral.

Jones' aunt Diane stated, "It's unreal, it doesn't seem real because we're still looking for him to come into the house, tap someone on the head and give that big smile because that's what he always did. We're really going to miss him, we already miss him."

Tanisha Sharpe, 25,  is being held in the Russell County Jail until her preliminary hearing.

Funeral arrangements for Dwantai Cordary Jones will be held Friday, May 27th at 2 p.m. at Greater Mount Zion on Seale Road in Phenix City, Alabama. The Jones family plans on holding a  memorial service for him at Taylor Funeral Home.
