ATLANTA (AP) - A metro Atlanta woman who lost both hands, her left leg and right foot after contracting a flesh-eating disease has been fitted with bionic hands. Andy Copeland told the Associated Press on Friday that his 25-year-old daughter, Aimee, is returning to Georgia from Hilliard, Ohio, where she was fitted with a pair of hands with 24 programmable functions that will improve her dexterity.
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. (AP) - Police say a suburban Atlanta man faked his owned kidnapping to avoid telling his parents he was failing a college English course. John's Creek spokesman Doug Nurse says 19-year-old Aftab Aslam surrendered to police Thursday after making up a story about being kidnapped on April 27. Nurse says Aslam left home because he didn't want to tell his parents he was failing a class at Georgia Gwinnett College.
ATLANTA (AP) - U.S. Attorney's officials say a 52-year-old man has pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography. U.S. Attorney's spokeswoman Sue McKinney of the Middle District of Georgia says Josh Ensley, a former DeKalb County schools employee, pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court.
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Georgia's Republicans are gathering in Athens for their state convention with a message of unity, although some party divisions are on display. Tea party activist Debbie Dooley called a news conference just as the convention kicked off Friday afternoon, announcing a large-scale voter outreach effort launching this year. Dooley says the effort is needed because activists feel they can't depend on national Republicans.
