Drug Bust Lands Thousands in Marijuana

Sitting in handcuffs on his patio, Leon Walker will now be charged with possession of marijuana and intent to distribute.

Sgt. Ralph Stewart of the Sumter County Drug Task force says this about Walker, "It's always good to get someone who slips under the radar and this guy had slipped under the radar for a few months."

Months when these agents were waiting for the right time to bust Walker. The marijuana was found behind Walker's home, buried underground in a dog pen where he raised pit bull puppies. "This was bulk, packaged marijuana shipped to Americus, Georgia for distribution. We know the network reaches as far as South Florida," Stewart says.

Authorities say each bag of this marijuana equals out to 2-thousand dollars on the street. Stewart says along with crack cocaine, marijuana is the drug of abuse on the streets of Americus.

"We've taken a very proactive stance and people at agencies that are proactive, you're going to hear more about," Stewart says. And hopefully hearing about more drug raids like this one will help clean up the streets on a small town in Georgia.
