Auburn University students are making a Lee County homeowner's dream come true. Students of the Design/Build masters program have built a house for a well-known quilter in Waverly.
They recently built a quilting studio for Mozell Benson so she could teach her craft to others. She didn't have a suitable house to go along with it, so they built it, too. A large crowd was there Thursday to help them dedicate it.
"I've always wanted a new home, own a little property that was mine and help everybody who comes along. That's my goal. To help everybody," said Benson.
Richard Elliott has worked on both projects since last summer."It's just a great feeling when you can do something like this for somebody who truly deserves it," he said.
Benson has won numerous honors for her quilts, even having them hang in the Smithsonian Institute. It took the students 13 months to design and build the home and studio.
