Layoffs At Sumter Regional Hospital

Officials from Sumter Regional Hospital announced they'll be eliminating jobs. The announcement came Tuesday morning.

Sumter Regional Hospital will let 18-full time and 13-part time employees go, effective Friday, February 1st.

The reduction is a result of the March 1st tornado that destroyed the hospital's Americus facility. Sumter Regional Hospital President and CEO David Seagraves says, "Unfortunately we are at that point where we need to make adjustments and be good stewards to limited resources, we have to sustain operations of the hospital."

According to Seavgraves, the hospital is currently constructing a temporary facility.

He says the reduction in force will result in a more efficiently staffed hospital.
