COLUMBUS,Ga. (WTVM) -- Police have arrested 23-year old Courtney Lockhart for the murder of Auburn University freshman, Lauren Burk.
Auburn's Assistant Police Chief Tommy Dawson said that Lockhart was arrest in Phenix City, Ala on Friday. Lockhart is facing capital charges that include kidnapping, robbery, attempted rape, and murder.
Assistant Chief Dawson also stated that Lockhart is from Smiths, Ala.
Assistant Chief Dawson wouldn't share many details about the arrest, but said that he is certain this is the right guy. He also stated there is a lot of evidence that links Lockhart to this case and he does not anticipate any further arrests.
Officials at the press conference stated this is not an easy case, with an immediate resolution. They stated their task force worked around the clock to bring this case to a closure, and that they will continue to put all of their efforts in this case.
A tentative hearing has been scheduled for Courtney Lockhart, in Auburn, on Monday. The case will also be heard by a Grand Jury on May 5th.
