Chris Vessell

Chris Vessell became a reporter for WTVM in June 2008, filing stories from the East Alabama Bureau.  Growing up on a farm in rural Tennessee, Chris had access to merely five television networks.  As a result, he had no choice but to watch news each evening at dinner.  Over the years, television news became a significant part of Chris's life.

Chris graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 2006.  He started his career in broadcast at the CBS affiliate in Knoxville as a production assistant during his senior year of college.  Upon graduating, this small-town boy moved to New York to begin a post-graduate internship with ABC News.  Over his five-month stint at ABC, Chris worked for news magazines, 20/20 and Primetime with network producers and correspondents such as Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer.

Concluding his internship in New York, Chris was invited to participate in Gannett Broadcasting's Talent Development Program.  Through this program designed to train recent graduates, Chris trained to become a multi-media journalist at the NBC affiliate, WBIR, in Knoxville.

Chris feels blessed to be doing what he loves.  He values his faith, family, and friends more than anything else in his life.  Chris is humbled to be able to tell the stories affecting those living in East Alabama.  His goal is to report the facts and human emotion that reveal those universal truths every one of us can relate to.  In his spare time, Chris plans to explore the small towns and beautiful outdoors of Alabama and Georgia.
