Columbus, GA (WTVM)--From slick wheels to those that just come with two, you name it, this place has it.
"We have just about anything you can find around the household, such as garden equipment, television sets, PSP games, X-box games, stereos, appliances, furniture," says Captain William Turner.
The Columbus Police Department hosts auctions and anyone can bid and buy. Many of the goods come through seizures, and law enforcement officials use the money from the auctions to fund other investigations. At the same time, consumers may catch a good deal for themselves.
"We have it here to be auctioned off at a lesser price than what you'd pay for it in the store," says Turner.
You can also find similar things for sale at www.govdeals.com. It's where government agencies across the country, like law enforcement, school districts and even cities themselves place old items up for bid.
The site allows you to search by category, and even by zip code. We put in 31906 and pulled up everything from a $500.00 fryer from the Muscogee County School District, to pick up trucks from the state of Alabama's Surplus Property Division.
Whether it's in person or online, these police and government auctions may be worth a try if you're looking to save. The Columbus Police Department works with the Wayne Evans Auction Company to host its auctions. You can visit www.weaci.com to check out a schedule.
