
TROUP COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - The Troup County Board of Education tells News Leader 9 it has accepted a letter of resignation from teacher Elizabeth Gaddy.
Gaddy was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated child molestation by the Troup County Sheriff's Office. Gaddy has been on administrative leave since November 20, 2008, stemming from allegations of professional misconduct.
The seventh grade teacher faces charges of aggravated child molestation, child molestation, and enticing a child for indecent purposes.
Authorities were prompted by parents of the teacher's behavior.
Thursday, Dr. Edwin Smith, superintendent of Troup County Schools told News Leader 9, "We are deeply saddened by this situation. As educators, we have a solemn responsibility to look out for the safety and welfare of our students. Anything less is in direct contrast to our mission and purpose."
