Former Anchor/Reporter Suzanne Lawrence Dies

It's a sad day for the WTVM family.  We confirmed early Monday that former news anchor and reporter Suzanne Lawrence has died.

Suzanne competed at the September 1990 Miss America pageant, representing Texas.  But you may remember her best as a co-anchor of our 5:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. newscasts in the late nineties.  Her work included live reports from the scene of a Russell County school bus crash, and a special report for News Leader 9 on the secrets of a long-lasting marriage.

We'd known for some time Suzanne had health problems.  In fact, word reached us several weeks ago that former Miss America contestants were starting a fundraising campaign, to help pay her cancer bills.

Suzanne Lawrence reportedly died from cancer on Saturday in north Texas, at age 34.
