Lanett Man Sentenced In Dog Fatality

A Lanett man has been sentenced to prison after his pit bull attacked and killed a woman last year.  Billy Earl Marbury, 55, was given a 15-year sentence Thursday and was denied probation.

This past May, he plead guilty to manslaughter in the death of Barbara Pilkington, 70. She was mauled by a pit bull while walking along South Eighth Street in Lanett on February 4, 2005.

Witnesses say Marbury owned, and was abusing the dog at the time of the attack. Under law if an owner has contributed to a dog's vicious behavior, they can be charged.
