Remembering Katie Wagner

Katie Wagner

"Katie Wagner was a 15-year-old sophomore attending Boulder Creek High School in Anthem, Arizona in October 2011. Katie began experiencing stomach pain, and went to the doctor for a routine check-up. They discovered a tumor the size of an egg blocking her bladder and she was diagnosed with a rare form of stage 4 cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma, which only impacts about five in one million kids.

"With the support of her family, she immediately began aggressive chemotherapy that would last more than a year. It was challenging but her faith, family and friends gave her the strength to fight. In February 2013 the cancer that had been throughout her body was completely gone. All scans were clear.

"But in May 2013, more scans were done and the cancer had returned. She continued her fight. Katie passed away on September 17."
