When the going gets tough, the tough keep running – even if I don’t feel like it. That’s determination, but it also helps to put things into perspective while training for this marathon.

He's 80 years old and still running the race - literally. My uncle Jim Rosborough has completed at least 24 marathons. Most recently, he finished #2 at the World Sprint Triathlon in his age group, barely beat by a Russian man. And he's not done yet. On a recent visit to see him in Houston for the NCAA basketball "Final Four," I got a chance to run with Jim through the streets of the Space City.

I took a bite out of the Big Apple, with my running shoes on and a little sweat on my face. My family vacation in New York City did not mean a vacation from marathon training. That race is only a month away. I needed to get those miles in, keep in shape and stay on schedule.

The ball is tipped, And there you are, You're running for your life, You're a shooting star. That’s the beginning lyrics for “One Shining Moment,” a song made popular by the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, which is going on right now. That tourney, one of the biggest sporting events all year, is also known as “March Madness.”

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Turning 16 years old is a rite of passage, and an age of freedom when many teens get their driver’s license. Back then, running a marathon wasn’t something I even dreamed of doing. I wanted to drive 26.2 miles. Running 16 miles is not so sweet, but a different kind of freedom, or at least sweet relief when my run was done. I experienced that distance for the first time a few days ago. It was a tough challenge, but I had to do it. The 16-m...

It’s a win-win, if you can use one of your passions in life to help raise money for a good cause. With my running this time, I’m hoping to tackle the issues of childhood cancer and also sex trafficking. I ran more than 30 miles last week, including my longest ever single run of 15 miles.  More >>

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - No pain, no gain. That being said, pain isn’t fun, especially in the middle of exercising or a race. I was only half a mile away from the finish line, and a big knot tightened in my right quad. The cramp came after already completing nearly 13 miles on the treacherous terrain of Providence Canyon State Park, also known as Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon.” It was a brief scare, halfway through training for my first marathon, with just 2 mo...

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Watching someone run or compete in a race usually doesn’t draw the same excitement as a football or basketball game, but I would definitely recommend going to see the new film RACE, just out in theaters. It’s the story of Jesse Owens, known by many as the most famous athlete in track and field history, breaking records and barriers as an African-American jumper and runner, winning 4 gold medals at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, with dictator Adol...More >>

I don’t like treadmills. No offense to those who you use them at a local gym. They do help you exercise inside and out of the cold, but you’re running nowhere, every time you’re on a treadmill.

Food, glorious food! I’ll admit, I love to eat. And sometimes I don’t make the healthiest choices. Exercising does allow me to get away with eating more, without feeling as guilty. Losing weight was my motivation to start running, nearly 3 years ago. Now, running is part of my motivation to lose weight. It’s come full circle.  More >>

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - There’s a sign outside a shoe store in Columbus that reads “Happiness is running with a friend.” That’s a lesson I’m still learning. Most of my running, over the last 2+ years, has been by myself. I’m not a loner, but because my night shift at WTVM allows me to do most of my runs on weekday mornings, when many people are working. I also like to run at my own pace, listen to music, and stay focused while I run. It can get lonel...More >>

How did I get here? That’s sometimes what goes through my mind as I’m out running, and wanting to stop. We all need motivation, whether you’re a beginner runner or more experienced. This week, I used motivation from the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to get me through my training.
