COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Despite family and friends fears, the body of a missing Columbus woman has been found.
A little after 12:00 p.m. Monday, 26-year-old Jilani Platt's body was found in a retention pond off Schataulga Road in northeast Columbus. Autopsy results reveal she died from a gun shot wound to the head.
According to police reports, Jilani went to dinner with her friend Saturday evening, arrived home and got into a verbal argument with her husband, 31-year-old Zyderrious Platt.
She was reported missing on Sunday morning by her mother, when Jilani did not show up to pick up her nephew. Jilani's keys and cell phone were missing but her car stayed parked in front of their Crystal Court home.
Police searched the couple's home and found a weapon linked to her husband -- a convicted felon. He has been held in Muscogee County Jail since this weekend for firearm possession.
After further investigation, Platt's charges were upgraded to murder with no bond set.
Platt's preliminary hearing in Recorder's Court is scheduled for Friday, October 9th at 8:00 a.m.
His previous convictions include an aggravated assault and battery in 2005. And in March of this year, he was jailed after Jilani accused him of punching her in the face -- but she later dropped those charges.
Jilani Platt was a 2001 Shaw High School graduate and a pharmacy tech at Rite Aid.
Police believe her death may have stemmed from the couple's argument. No other details surrounding Jilani's death will be released at this time.
