Semi collides with car, killing woman on HWY 280

SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) -  Alabama State Troopers are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at Lee County Road 248 and Highway 280 at mile marker 118 around 1:00 p.m. Monday.

Glenda Baggett, 61, of Smiths Station, AL, was traveling west in a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice when she collided with a commercial vehicle.

The initial investigation indicates that Baggett's vehicle was traveling west on Lee County Road 248 when she failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Highway 280. 

Baggett's vehicle was struck by a 2006 Freightliner driven by Ronnie R. Howard Sr., 62, of Midway, GA. 

Baggett was pronounced dead at the scene by Lee County Deputy Coroner Charlotte Patterson.  Howard was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene and released.

State troopers are still investigating the details surrounding this accident.
