COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) --
Georgia joins five other states in the implementation of a Tax Credit Scholarship Program, spear-headed by the Alliance for School Choice. Governor Sonny Perdue put the program into motion Wednesday, giving roughly 10,000 low-income students a chance at improving their education by attending a private school.
The program will provide $50,000,000 worth of aid to eligible students. Scholarship funds are replenished through individual and corporate donations, recognized as tax credits. Corporations will receive 100% tax credits for their donations; individuals must give at least $1,000 (or $2,5000 per married couple) to get the 100% credit.
