Local NAACP president resigns

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  The local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has announced the resignation of President William "Bill" Madison.

NAACP says Madison is stepping down to take care of his wife, Mrs. Shirley Madison.

Madison has served on the Columbus Branch of NAACP for more than four years.

The organization -- founded on February 12, 1909-- recently marked its 100th birthday.
