LEE COUNTY, ALA (WTVM) - A lee County Circuit Court Judge is calling it justifiable homicide.

Judge John Denson has overturned a guilty verdict in the case of Mary Maxine Neel of Smiths Station, making her a free woman.

She was convicted in November of 2008 of murdering Glenn Hall, her daughter's estranged husband.

In the case, Neel claimed the death occurred in self-defense, as she was protecting her daughter from Hall.

Judge Denson agreed, claiming the State's evidence did not support the case.
