COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  After three years of planning and construction the USS Water Witch came to life at Port Columbus today.

The recreated battle ship was open to the public with a Civil War period commissioning ceremony.

The ship was recreated in full scale to help give museum guest the true on-deck experience.

Organizers say it's a unique way to learn about naval life during the Civil War.

The celebration included reenactors dressed up for the commissioning ceremony and it doesn't end today.

Tomorrow an 1860's style chapel service will be held on the deck of the ship at 10 AM and it is open to the public.
