AE Light Metals Casting of LaGrange Closing

LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) - Ae Light Metal Casting GA, Inc. is closing its doors in May.

The German based company opened its doors in 2005 after being recruited by the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce with the hope of employing 300 workers by 2011.

The company says the downturn in the auto industry caused the parent company in Gerstungen, Germany to file for bankruptcy on April 2nd.

Jane Fryer, member of the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce and Development Authority, said she and other members Diethard Lindner and Bobby Carmichael met with Ae Light earlier this week to discuss the closure. Fryer told News Leader 9, "The Chamber of Commerce has a responsibility to provide jobs to its citizens and it's always sad to lose jobs."

At its peak, the company employed 95 workers, but the closure in May will leave 33 employees without a job. Fryer is optimistic that Kia will provide jobs for workers who meet criteria.
