Columbus High evacuated due to gas leak

(WTVM) - Columbus High students have been evacuated due to a gas leak that is believed to be on 17th street.

"Students and staff are safe," according to a Connect-Ed emergency message sent on behalf of the school district's Director of Communications, Valerie Fuller. "At this time, we have not received clearance to re-enter the building due to safety concerns."

Students can be picked up at St. Paul United Methodist on 2101 Wildwood Avenue beginning at 2:45 ET.

Students who ride the bus will be picked up by bus and taken home as usual.  In addition, Columbus High athletes will not participate in the track meet at Kinnett Stadium today.

A track meet scheduled for today has been cancelled.
