RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - David Wiggins, a convicted killer in Russell County, has been sentenced to die by lethal injection.

In March, a Russell County jury found Wiggins guilty of robbing and murdering Kyle Cavins in 2005 in Fort Mitchell. That same jury recommended the death penalty for Wiggins. On Thursday, a Russell County Circuit Judge sentenced him to the death penalty.

Wiggins admitted that he was drunk and high when he shot Cavins multiple times.

By Alabama law, Wiggins is given an automatic appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court.
