Captured: Johnny Mays

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus Police say they have captured this man. Thirty-five-year-old Johnny Richardo Mays was taken into custody Friday afternoon by the Police Department's Fugitive Squad.

They say around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Mays and another unnamed suspect invaded an apartment in Southside Court Apartments.

We're told the pair were armed with handguns and bound up the two people inside. The suspects then began searching the apartment when another knocked on the apartment door. That person, 30-year-old Allen Cohen, was led into the apartment by the suspects inside.

Once Cohen saw the handguns and realized what was going on, he attempted to flee. That's when a fight between the two suspects and Cohen began. During the fight, Cohen was shot in the groin, and one of the suspects was shot in the abdomen.

Both Cohen and the injured suspect were transported to the Medical Center to be treated for injuries. The suspect is in critical condition after undergoing surgery. He has not been identified at this time. Cohen is currently being treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

The uninjured suspect, 35-year-old Johnny Mays, fled the scene and was later captured around 1:00 p.m. Friday.

No date for a hearing has been set.
