Columbus Man Found Guilty in Girlfriend's Death

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WXTX) - A Columbus man has been found guilty of fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend in June.

Jurors deliberated for about six hours before convicting 23-year-old Javon Thompson of felony murder, attempted feticide and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Assistant District Attorney Lew Barrow said he was acquitted Thursday of a count of malice murder.

Thompson was sentenced to life in prison, followed by five years of incarceration.

He was accused of shooting 22-year-old Sarahonica Thrasher, who was seven months pregnant, on the morning of June 6 after the two argued.

Police said Thompson drove Thrasher to The Medical Center where an emergency operation occurred to deliver the baby.
