COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A fugitive from justice has been caught in Columbus.

Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Barren Stowe had warrants out on him for murder and assault in the first degree, stemming from a crime out of Goodwater, Alabama. Goodwater is a town located northwest of Alexander City.

Last night, two people were stabbed in Goodwater, one died.

Police there were able to connect Stowe to the crime and received information that he may be staying at the Motel 6 in Columbus on Victory Drive.

They contacted Columbus Police who went to the motel and learned that Stowe did in fact have a room there. They raided the room but he wasn't there. Officers set up surveillance and during the stake-out, saw a man fitting Stowe's physical description walking along Victory Drive.

According to investigators, when Stowe realized cops were waiting for him, he turned around and started walking in the other direction. A short foot chase between Stowe and Columbus Police officers ensued but he was caught and charged as a fugitive from justice.

Goodwater Police are expected to begin his extradition to Alabama on Monday.
