X-Rays Taken of Collapsed Water Tank

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) -  Investigative engineers continue to test the steel from the six million gallon Water Works tank that collapsed off River Road nearly two weeks ago.

Today, x-rays of the tank's welds were taken to determine if the steel seams where its plates joined together were a contributing factor in the collapse.

Some test results on the metal are expected next week.

In the meantime, Water Works officials say the steel from the tank is expected to be cleared Friday so commuters beware: the eastbound side of JR Allen Parkway will be brought down to one lane from 2nd Avenue to River Road from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

We're told recent rains have somewhat delayed the investigation into what happened as well as the clean-up operations.
