Are you okay? Available for Lee Co. seniors

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - "ARE YOU OKAY?" is a simple question, but Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones believes this question could mean the difference between life and death for senior citizens.

The sheriff's office spent $3,000 in grant money to buy a reverse 9-11 system.

It will place a call to any senior citizen in Lee County.

The call has a recorded message asking the senior if they were okay. "If you are okay press 1. If you need help press 9. "

If they press 9, or if they don't answer, a patrol unit is sent to their home to check on then and their family notified.

The service will operate out of the county's 9-11 center.
