Phenix City Council Close to Raises

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WXTX) -- The Phenix City Mayor and Council are now only two steps away from higher pay.

A bill allowing the council to vote on a raise was approved last week, in the final days of the Alabama Legislature's session.  It now goes to Governor Bob Riley for his signature.  If Riley signs the bill, the raise then will be up to the council for a vote.

Currently the mayor is paid $1,000 per month, while council members receive $800.  The bill would allow them to have salaries similar to that of Russell County Commission members.
