Phenix City Boys and Girls Club to lose charter

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Phenix City will not have a Boys and Girls Club as of Friday, May 22.  The group recently lost its charter with the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Its new name will be Phenix-Russell Youth Center.

Executive director, Charlie Sanders tells News the 20th Avenue location will be closed until further notice, but the " Phenix-Russell Youth Center will continue providing uninterrupted youth services at its 5th Street South and Fort Mitchell locations."

The group recognizes the impact this will have on the community and is urging every family member affected to attend a meeting to be held Thursday, May 21st, 7:00 p.m. at the 20th Avenue Site, located at 2000 20th Avenue in Phenix City.

The meeting will address the immediate closure of the 20th Avenue site, upcoming summer day camp at other locations, information or requesting a refund for summer camp, the possibility of re-opening the 20th Avenue site, and any other concerns.
