PHENIX CITY, AL. (WTVM) - Phenix City Council finally settled a brewing lawsuit over a piece of property.
The settlement between the city and property owner Michael Bowden has been going on for several years. The land the city bought from Bowden is near the Riverchase exit in Phenix City.
A few years ago the city went to court about the price of the land, but both parties couldn't agree on the $1.2 million dollar settlement. That led to a new agreement this morning of $2 million dollars and some new property for Bowden along the riverfront near Riverchase Drive. "I don't like the agreement. I would not have approved it, but what's worse is how this council arrived at that agreement," said Phenix City Mayor Sonny Coulter.
City council members voted 3 to 2 with Mayor Coulter and Councilman Max Wilkes opposing the agreement.
