Junior Marshal's Office Investigation Over

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) -  Muscogee County Marshal Greg Countryman says GBI officials have cleared the Junior Marshal's office of any wrongdoing.

"They only conducted a preliminary investigation and there was no need for a criminal investigation, because there wasn't any evidence of anything illegal," says Countryman.

This investigation started back in February after a city pay roll audit raised questions about the employment of Aayesha Owens Reese, the stepdaughter of Congressman Sanford Bishop and daughter of Columbus Municipal Court Clerk Vivian Creighton Bishop.

Reese's husband at that time, Stephen Reese was also on the payroll as an assistant, while Aayesha's job title listed her as the Marshal Program's Administrative Assistant.

"All of the people involved, myself, Vivian Bishop, Congressman Bishop, Aeyesha Reese and her husband Stephen were cleared of all allegations of being "ghost workers," says Marshal Countryman.

The investigation was prompted by Countryman himself.

He says GBI officials spoke with all parties involved during the preliminary investigation.

The Marshal's attorney plans to outline the GBI report, including its reasons for closing the investigation.
