RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -  Forty-six-year-old Guy Baker from Seale faces charges of rape, kidnapping, sodomy, sexual abuse and sexual torture after authorities say he held his girlfriend captive for two weeks.

Baker made his first appearance today before a Russell County District Court Judge since his arrest Wednesday.

The judge entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf because Baker cannot afford his nearly $300,000 bond.

Police say Baker, who is a convicted sex offender, hid in the woods eating berries and drinking muddy water for days before he turned himself in.

The District Attorney's Office asked for the maximum bond since Baker allegedly made threats to kill law enforcement before his arrest.

Baker has now been appointed an attorney and a preliminary hearing is set for July 22nd.
