Your Turn on 9: Phenix City Council to get pay raise

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Phenix City Council and Mayor Sonny Coulter agreed to a pay increase that will double their annual salary.

The unanimous decision came down during a Friday morning work session after a 20 minute debate.

The mayor will now go from making $12,000 a year to about $24,000. While city council will go from making about $9,000 to $21,000.

An act passed by the Alabama Legislature and governor allows city councilors to increase their pay to the same as the Russell County Commission.

The new increase will take effect next month.
