Valley Officials Debate Over Stimulus Funds

VALLEY, AL (WTVM) -  City officials in Valley are prioritizing potential stimulus funds.

The city was notified that they had been approved for a substantial amount of grant money to go towards the Langdale Mill project.

However, accepting the funds would preclude Valley from receiving stimulus money for other projects important to the city's infrastructure.

"The council was put into an uncomfortable situation of turning down a half million dollars and going for a grant that's more in line with what people wanted, or accepting the half million dollars. The overall vote of the council was no, we're going to align ourselves with our people. Whether we get the grant or not, we'll at least show that we tried," explained Mayor Arnold Leak.

The City Council will be holding a public work session Tuesday June 2nd at 6:30 PM to discuss other stimulus issues.
