COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Millie's Market hosted the Second Annual Soldier Appreciation Day Sunday afternoon on South Lumpkin Road.

The block party style event featured free food, demonstrations from a local martial arts school, and live music throughout the day.

Event organizers say it is important for the community to show support for our soldiers and military families. Event organizer, Carlos Huertas told News Leader Nine, "I just wanted everybody to know that what we're doing over here, the Hispanic community, we are doing it for our soldiers and their families. We want to tell everyone, that the Hispanic community in Columbus is here to stay. We want to say thanks to all our soldiers and our families. We got to remember them 24/7."

The day's event also raised awareness of the 2010 National Census.
