LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Wednesday, we learned new information on why investigators believe four Auburn residents allegedly set fire to three East Alabama churches.
20-year-old Phillip Chapman is the fourth suspect taken into custody for the February 14th fires at Union Hill and Liberty CME churches in Chambers county and the Pitts Chapel fire in Lee County.
3 other 20-year olds were booked by the Chambers county sheriff's department last week. Lee county sheriff jay jones tells us evidence found at all three churches can be connected to the four suspects. As for motive, the sheriff says the four just don't like religion.
"It appears there is some negative perception on their part in regards to religion and that is the angle we are following at this point in time," said Sheriff Jay Jones.
