Ft. Benning Grad/Recruiter Killed

FORT BENNING, GA - Private William Long, a recent graduate of Fort Benning Infantry One Station Unit Training was killed in an attack on a recruiting station in Little Rock, Ark. One other Soldier was injured in the attack.

Long, who graduated on May 22 from D Company, 2nd Battalion, 58th Infantry, was home on leave providing hometown recruiting assistance while en route to his first duty station in Korea.

"This is a senseless tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time," said LTC Richard Timmons II, 2/58 Battalion commander. "Private Long was a solid Soldier. He did everything we asked of him during his basic training and he graduated as an Infantryman."

A memorial service is planned for Private Long on Friday at 9 a.m. at Soldier's Chapel on Sand Hill.
